If you have DVD collections with videos that you wish to save on your PC or mobile device, you will find the information in this post useful. Whether you purchased these movies or Television shows or they are just personal videos or slideshows, you can rip your DVDs into digital files; doing this will give you access to play and edit the clips without relying on the CD/DVDs. There are so many tools out there that you can use to copy and save your DVD collection. Some of these tools are free, and some you will have to buy. It's okay to want a software that's capable of ripping digital files from any source accessible from a DVD, ISO image, a folder of DVD files (ripping files saved in VIDEO_TS folders usually found on DVDs), or the DVD itself. It's also nice to have software that can rip DVDs to different file formats, like WMVs, MOVs, AVIs, MP4s, and formats compatible with mobile devices.
Is ripping DVDs legal? Ripping your videos is legal, but what about commercial, copyrighted, copy-protected videos? It's illegal to rip such DVDs to resell or share copies of the ripped file with others. It is still illegal to rip DVDs with copyrights for personal use, at least in the US, since you bypass the copy protection. The feds, however, are less likely to badge in your home if you are not sharing or reselling copies to people. Let's get to the business of the day. Below you will find the best free DVD rippers you can use to copy and save your DVD collection on your computer and mobile device.
