Troubleshooting Audacity Not Recording Problems

It is inconvenient when Audacity not recognizing mic or system sound when recording audio. It might seem because of some software malfunctions, bugs, or wrong settings. Now, let's try changing the settings like the default audio host. Read the steps below.

1. Set MME as default audio host

  • Launch Audacity, and click the “Audio host” dropdown box at the leftmost upper part of the tool.
  • Then, choose “MME” as its default host. MME stands for Multimedia Extensions, which is a default host that ensures sounds on every recording you make.
  • After changing the default audio host, try to record and check if there is a sound on your recording.

You need to make sure of if the mic or system sound volume is enough. Lower volume can result in unpleasant sound or no sound at all.
